This was the beginning of MDEC. This is ECU1, also called ECU C1, and it was the first MDEC unit manufactured by MTU, for controlling first 2000 series engines. The electronic system where it was used was called Seed-Sila with a first LOP without display on the door, only analogue gauges and some pushbuttons with symbols which you didn´t understand which function was for each one 🙂 (I would share some photo on some other post).

Once I was told that this type of unit was somehow a prototype and was installed only in around 40 yachts. When I worked in the field I had the opportunity to work repairing some of these units at different boats.
I don´t know if this is true, because over the years I have been repairing some other units of this model. In fact, this is coming from a customer in Vietnam, which we already repaired one unit for him, so this is the second unit they send to be repaired.
On the label you can see year 1.998, ECB1. One characteristic of this unit was about the electro-mechanical oil pressure sensor installed on the corner of the ECU, you can see also on the photo.

Following to this type of unit appeared ECU4, also called ECU C2, with a huge quantity of engines using it.
I would like to know who had a chance to see this unit in the field.
